Crop Storage Research

28 October 2011

Sutton Bridge Crop Storage Research is an R&D facility owned by AHDB and operated by its Potato Council division. It is the primary centre providing potato storage research and advice to the GB industry. SBCSR has extensive facilities for work on potato and is also engaged in other forms of crop storage R&D, including field vegetables and controlled atmosphere storage. In addition to levy-funded work, it offers a confidential contract research capability with accreditation to ISO9001 (2008). It is also ORETO registered with the UK Chemicals Regulation Directorate.

The team at SBCSR has an extensive and globally-recognised level of expertise on storage and crop quality issues. It seeks to provide high quality, cost-effective and relevant research of benefit to the potato industry.

The capability at SBCSR was boosted in 2010 by a £½ million investment in new controlled environment stores, supported by an RDPE grant from EMDA, Defra and the EU.

Adrian Cunnington, Head of SBCSR says "At SBCSR our key aim is to maintain and develop the facility as the centre of excellence which will deliver the storage research needs of the industry in the long term.”
