The PCN directive – Seed and ware

Covering the implications for seed and ware production through the adoption of the new EU PCN directive from 1st July 2010. Legislation will be updated to take account of changes in the understanding of the biology of PCN, its distribution across the EU and practices within the potato industry. The seminar will cover the latest research and regulatory developments

A look at the latest consumer trends and marketing opportunities in the credit crunch and what the implications are for the potato industry.

Dickeya (Blackleg) – a growing threat
(Dr Gerry Saddler, SASA)

An update on the latest developments in the incidence of new Dickeya strains in GB and Europe. Differences in the epidemiology between traditional blackleg and implications for the seed and ware industries are highlighted.

Cost-effective use in store
(Adrian Cunnington, PCL)

The seminar will summarise the first two years of the Potato Council-funded energy monitoring project in commercial stores. The project aims to highlight the need for energy monitoring in individual stores and area’s where substantial savings can be made. Area’s covered include the efficient use of fan systems and store layout and management to improve airflow. Comparisons between the most and least efficient stores provides estimates of cost benefits.
