Wholesale price survey from the London Markets, updated each Thursday.

This report gives areas by varieties for England, Scotland and Wales. It includes 49 of the most common varieties, representing some 90% of total planted area. It also gives 5-year trends in plantings for these varieties and discusses changes in their rankings. The estimate for total planted area is revised to 126,887ha, compared with 130,231 ha in 2009.

The planted area estimate for 2010 has now been revised to 126,450 ha, compared with 130,200 ha in 2009. This is a 2.9% reduction in area. This revision is based on 2,221 Planting Returns covering 82% of area processed to 29-July-2010. Confidence limits are ±0.6%.

First Estimate of Potato Plantings 2010

The Potato Council's first estimate of plantings for 2010 is 126,600 ha, down 2.8% on 2009's final planting figure of 130,200 ha. This is based on a sample of 54% of planting returns received prior to 24 June from 1515 growers.
