About SBEU

The Council's objectives for SBEU are to ensure that it is a cost-effective research centre working for the benefit of the British potato industry. To achieve this, SBEU is required to bid for levy-funded research contracts, undertakes a wide range of technology transfer activities and is also free to acquire external, private business.

Our mission statement for SBEU:

'To improve the quality of agricultural and horticultural produce, especially potatoes, through a better understanding of its storage and to effect technology transfer of publicly funded research and development carried out at Sutton Bridge.'
  • Number one for potato storage research
  • We provide advice & expertise on storage
  • We undertake independent studies
  • How can we help you?

As part of this obligation, SBEU provides free initial advice and information to levy payers. For up-to-the-minute information on storage, call the Storage Advice Line on our free phone number 08000 282111 (from a mobile call 01406 359419) or see our storage bulletins. A key aim is to integrate storage work at SBEU into the whole spectrum of science in support of the potato industry.
