Various levy funded projects that examined fertiliser use and uptake by potato crops have identified where potential savings can be made by matching application with true fertiliser requirement. Many of the findings have been incorporated into the fertiliser recommendations (RB209, 8th edition).

PLANET (Planning Land Applications of Nutrients for Efficiency and the environmenT) developed by ADAS for Defra is software to help growers with field-level nutrient management and compliance within nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZ’s) for whole farm application.
