Full Research Project Title: Stewardship of neonicotinoid insecticides
Duration: April 2004 - March 2008

Aim: To strengthen the scientific framework for combating insecticide resistance in aphids, primarily exemplified by Myzus persicae.

The ongoing release of new neonicotinoid molecules, as well as expansion in the use of existing ones, unless carefully considered and co-ordinated, will increase the exposure of Myzus persicae to this group of compounds. This aphid has proved to be the greatest resistance risk on arable crops in the past and it already shows variation in susceptibility to neonicotinoids.

This project was designed to increase the understanding of the resistance risks posed by different patterns of neonicotinoid use, enabling these compounds to be integrated more effectively with other insecticide classes into aphid control strategies.
