Commissioning Process

The Potato Council issues Invitations to Tender for research work; Calls for Proposals; and at some times during the year will also receive speculative proposals from research contractors. When we are seeking to receive applications, the relevant information and forms will be made available via this page (see below).

Potato Council Fellowship Scheme

The Call for Potato Council Fellowships 2015 is now CLOSED.

The Potato Council is currently seeking applications for its newly established Fellowship Scheme, which is included in the current R&D strategy. The aim is to help develop key research and technical skills within the industry. The Fellowship Scheme will be an integral part of the R&D strategy and it is expected that three Fellowships will be awarded during the next three years. The Fellowships will help to maintain expertise in these fields by:

Enabling Fellows to produce a review of knowledge in their specialist area and conduct research and deliver new knowledge that is identified as priority for the industry.
Enabling Fellows to contribute to the training needs of the next generation of applied researchers and technical staff.
Allow Fellows to source additional funding for research or knowledge generation from new sources.

AHDB Studentship Programme

The call for applications to the 2015 studentships programme is now CLOSED

As part of the AHDB studentship programme, the Potato Council studentship scheme aims to produce high-quality research outputs, based on original ideas, leading to benefits for the potato industry. Crucially, the scheme intends to deliver high-calibre practically-minded individuals to the industry for employment within both the commercial and academic crop arenas.

A successful studentship award with the Potato Council will clearly demonstrate that the studentship addresses industry priorities and supports the long-term profitability and sustainability of the potato industry. The priorities and applied focus for applications for a Studentship Award can be identified in the Potato Council research strategy document, which outlines priorities for 2012-2015. Please note that the Potato Council does not make studentship awards directly to students. Candidates for a studentship should address their enquiries to the institution where they would like to undertake a research degree.

Other Sponsorship

The Potato Council currently acts as an industrial sponsor on BBSRC funded projects under the Horticulture and Potatoes Initiative (HAPI) , and is prepared to support the submission of expressions of interest to Technology Strategy Board (TSB) competitions, provided that certain criteria are met.
